Dental Implants
Dental Implants In Peoria, Illinois - Peoria Heights All-On-4 Implants
An ideal way to replace missing teeth or provide a permanent solution to removable dentures is to opt for dental implants. As an implant dentist in Peoria, our practice offers single and multiple tooth implants, full arch dental implants, and All-On-4s.
What are dental implants and how do I know if they’re right for me?
Dental implants consist of an artificial root (typically titanium) that mimics the root of a natural tooth. This titanium root is surgically places into the jaw bone where your missing tooth was. After it is allowed time to fuse with the jaw bone, an artificial tooth is permanently attached to the root giving you the appearance of a natural and beautiful new tooth.
Dental implants are ideal for patients who want to replace one or multiple missing teeth without affecting surrounding teeth, such as drilling them down for a bridge, or alternative treatment. Implants can restore chewing, speech, digestion, and facial tissues. While dental implants are extremely strong and durable, they do need to be tended too just as natural teeth do. Be sure to visit our Peoria Heights implant dentistry practice regularly to insure that your implants last you many years.
What does getting dental implants involve?
The process of getting implants requires a number of visits over several months during which X-rays and impressions are taken of the jaw and teeth to determine bone, gum tissue, and spacing available for an implant. While the area is numb, the implant will be surgically placed into the bone and allowed to heal and integrate itself onto the bone for up to six months. Depending on the type of implant, a second surgery may be required in order to place the “post” that will hold the artificial tooth in place. With other implants the post and anchor are already attached and placed at the same time.
After several weeks of healing the artificial teeth are made and fitted to the post portion of the anchor. Because several fittings may be required, this step may take one to two months to complete. After a healing period, the artificial teeth are securely attached to the implant, providing excellent stability and comfort to the patient.
You will receive care instructions when your treatment is completed. Good oral hygiene, eating habits, and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your new implant.
